Welcome to my website!

Hello and welcome to my digital home on the Internet. I am a technical project manager by day, but at night and on the weekends I allow the personal side of me to come out and play. My two favorite personal time activities are writing and being outdoors photographing. I have shared some of my personal life and likes on this website in an attempt of some self expression.

Writing - I am attempting to become a published writer. I am currently working on a writing project in anticipation of one day soon seeing it published. Hopefully by the end of this year the majority of writing efforts will be accomplished. It has been a long-term process, spanning the last twelve years. Throughout those years there have been surges of effort with good ideas with solid writing. There have also been long gaps of neglect. It has been an overall enjoyable journey.

I have started blogging as a means to practice writing a little bit every day. You can find my daily blog posts in the above menu under My Blog/Writing along with links to some attempts at poetry written throughout the years. In addition there is a little collection of adult learning and business related documents posted. You may also click on the WordPress icon to the right to quickly navigate to my blog: The Day Books of Rick Dixon.

Photography - My website contains photographs that span decades, although the majority of images I have posted online come from more recent times. In addition to the photographs I have provided information on my camera equipment, both digital and large format film. I have also shared my photography workflows. plus a collection of miscellaneous photographic information and links. You can find it all under the above menu items: Photography and Photo Technique. As for my favorite photographers, Edward Weston, John Sexton, Ansel Adams top the list.

Most of the photography you will find on my website is outdoor themed, in particular abstracts of flowing water are of special interest to me. Water abstracts are infinite, never twice being identical in two separate exposures. There is a presence in the water that at times is willing to reveal itself.

As fall 2018 advances, I hope to add some new photographs. Late Fall is my favorite time of the year to be in the woods. There is a crispness in the air and I believe it transfers well into my photographs.

Other Art Interests - I find that I enjoy the art (painting and sculpture) that was created between the Early and High Renaissance through the Impressionism and the Post-Impressionism movements the most. Living rather close to Washington, DC, I have easy access to three wonderful collections of art from these periods; The National Gallery of Art, The National Portrait Gallery, and the Phillips Collection. A visit to any of these three will refresh my soul. When I can't manage to be there I have a few books to turn to for viewing pleasure, but it is not nearly as wonderful as standing in front of the actual art. If I were to pick a favorite it would be Vincent van Gogh, followed by Degas and Vermeer. My favorite painting is Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus.

Music Interests - Beyond the music that I grew up with, classic rock, and adult contemporary, I grew into a strong liking of classical music. I consider myself a simple classical listener; enjoying the music which I describe as most easy to enjoy. The cello and the violin are soothing instruments. Mozart tops my list of classical composers that includes Bach, Vivaldi, Shubert, Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin; the typical top composers. Vivaldi's Four Seasons could be my favorite classic music, but many other are so close in comparison one should not have to choose, and I don't. The piece of music I feel is the most beautiful of all the great music written is from Puccini's Madame Butterfly, Un Bel Di (One Fine Day). For me it is the most moving piece of music ever written and performed.

Please come on in and take a look around. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Leave me a message via email with any questions or comments. I would appreciate that! Links to contact me are on this homepage and also found under Contact in the menu.

I typically do not photograph much in color. When I do, the colors captured
are very important in my mind to the photograph.
